Your Authentic Desires and Passions Can Make You Money!
There is something REAL about being REAL.
If you flip over to Youtube and watch any of the motivational videos (don’t worry there are plenty to go around) then you will find one key component. They all mention a word.
Passion is not easily defined. Is it an emotion?
Google defines it as:
Strong and barely controllable emotion.
Passion is a lot like a sense. You don’t mean to hear, you just do.
That is why your passion for something can not be controlled. I would not quantify it as an emotion. It is a driver like an emotion though.
Authentic Desires and Your Passion Need To Be Tapped Into
I wrote recently about Authentic Desires in my Search Engine Journal Post. That got me a few emails asking me what I was talking about.
It is very hard to explain. I think I do the best job in that article.
You have to understand your own self-defeating beliefs. These are stemmed from conflicting desires. Conflicting desires are when you want something, but you also want the opposite. I want to lose weight, but I want an Oreo. These are normal. They are the difference between your short term goals and your instinct of producing today’s results. Short term satisfaction with long-term larger gains.
Your authentic desire will free this for you. Your authentic desire comes from being congruent. Congruent where your heart, logic, and soul point to the same outcome. Find out what you want the most and only go after that.
Find your authentic desire and start to map it out. Conflicting desires come from the willingness to succeed versus the pleasure of putting off the task. Why do you not produce content for five hours a day? It is easier to get busy and disregard long-term wins for short term satisfaction.
Again the example for me is the want to lose weight but the immediate taste of a cookie. I have to gain an authentic desire to want the weight loss more than the short term taste of the cookie.
For SEO and website developers, the cycle starts when you let doubts creep in. That critical voice creeps in as soon as you make a decision you are uncertain of.
This is how this plays out. You started a website. You then realized that it did not become an instant success. Your conflicting desire of income and wealth versus present day survival started.
Now you have no proof that you are going to achieve the goal of a great website. You have no proof that you have what it takes to achieve success. You also will not have any “fast” proof that your heading in the right direction. That makes SEO and website development for entrepreneurs difficult.
Short term wins are not involved with white hat SEO. This is why so many of us have dabbled with black hat SEO. Why the allure of a private blog network or dropped domains being 301’d seem fascinating. We can do something to get short term success.
Find Discipline in Others’ Fascinating Success
Another reason your started project is floundering is because your discipline level dipped to zero. Here is why.

Convictions, Authentic Desires, Passion – What The Heck Am I Talking About?
I am talking about your business. If you are struggling to find ways to stay motivated then it may be time to sell out.
If you know you want to run the business and market the business then it may be time to start motivating yourself.
Either way. You have to make a decision.
You have to step up to the plate.
If you don’t have passion for the project then get out. It will ruin you to continue.
Defining Success Will Help YOU
So many times when I am consulting (feels like counseling) a marketer we enter into a conversation that goes like this:
Them: I don’t know, I tried to get it all done this week but I got busy.
Me. Are you making excuses? Did you really have A1 Priority Task this week?
Them. (a.) They were not A1 but they were important. (or b.) Look I pay you to tell me how to get results not quiz my schedule. (Said in a little anger)
I HATE THIS CONVERSATION!
This is all stemmed from someone not following my instructions or they are no longer passionate about what they are doing. I had one marketer who went golfing (I knew this from their social media) at least three times in a week. When they told me they just didn’t have time I asked if they went golfing. They said yeah. I said was that important? They fired me.
It is so difficult to push for results from someone that doesn’t want the same thing as you do. That is why I stopped working with marketers on a consulting fee basis.
Enough with me.
Your passion and authentic desire can make you a ton of money. Here is how.
Only write when you are passionate about what you are writing about. Only sell what you are authentic about selling. If you are not that way about your current project then let’s fix that.
Here is How You Fix Not Being Passionate or Authentic.
- Motivation – Watch Youtube (Basketball/Sports are great) Motivational Talks
- Dose of Customers Pain – Find Customers That Your Product or Service Has or Will Solve. Call Them. Find out how much pain they are really in? Can you feel it? If not then call more.
- Wins – Find small wins that you can accomplish in your day. Making the bed in the morning is a small win but will get you started the right way.
- Take Bites – How do you eat a whale? One bite at a time. Learn that your “passion” may fluctuate. Take one action every day that pushes you towards a win in one area of your project.
- GOALS – Have goals set and in front of you at work and at home. Mirrors are great for this.
I know this seems like normal crap. It sounds like cliches.
The truth to a lot of this marketing stuff is that “Success is Found in the Cliches.”
If you learn to actually apply knowledge then you can take in information and make use of it faster than those around you. That is when you will start “Racing” through promotions and income raises.
